A little comedian?

The other day I had some time alone in the car with the boys so I told them a few jokes. A little later, Kyle was telling one of them back to me exactly as I had told it to him including my ever-creative intro, "I have a joke for you." So I taught him some more. Here's a little video of him telling 2 quick jokes.

Moms of boys may relate

A while back I found myself sighing that sigh of momentary defeat as the mother of 2 boys. The boys were being boys--perfectly sweet, absolutely grimey, rough and tumble, 100% boys. My mom was nearby and heard my surrender. She said, "These boys are little angels, you know...they just sometimes crumple up their halos and stuff 'em in their back pockets." After hearing that, I gathered up the wings and halos and followed the boys around outside digging in the dirt, collecting horse apples in their dump truck, standing on the fence mooing at the cows, and playing with sticks and just being little boy angels.

Our family celebration of Barrett's birthday

Today for Barrett's birthday we took him and Kyle swimming. They had a great time. Next we all went out to dinner. After the waitresses sang "Happy Birthday" to Barrett, he struck up a conversation with the man at the table next to us. He told him he turned four years old today and that he was almost five! That cracked me up because of what I had just written about him in my last blog post (Happy Birthday, Barrett) This is a perfect illustration of the description I gave...outgoing/loves a captive audience, in a hurry to be older.
4yo

When we got home we had birthday cake. Let me say that again-We all ate birthday cake. Not eggless, milkless with wierd special flours. Real. Cake. It was awesome! Kyle said, "I like cake!" Barrett managed to mutter a "mmmm" between mouthfuls.

Barrett opened one present from us. Buzz Lightyear. He was very excited. Kyle got a 5" tall Buzz with no lights or moving parts and he was just as excited about that one as Barrett was about the real deal. Kyle said, "I didn't know I would get a Buzz too!" The five guys (Bear, Kyle, Daddy, and 2 Buzz's) flew around the room until I announced it was waaaayyy past bedtime. I am pretty sure Daddy groaned the loudest.
Barrett is very excited about his party with friends and family next weekend and more cake.

Happy Birthday, Barrett!

Dear Barrett,
Happy birthday! You’re four today and in such a hurry to grow up. I told you the other day about how when I was your age, I didn’t want to grow up and I always wanted to stay a kid. I loved playing with my toys and getting piggy-back rides and I was afraid that growing up would mean the end to all my fun. You do not see it like that at all. You just want to be big. Well, I don’t know how or when it happened. I guess I should have inserted toothpicks so I wouldn’t blink, because now I look at you and you are not my baby boy anymore. You are a little man, a big little boy with the ‘little’ being silent because if I accidentally say it aloud I would immediately be corrected. You take such pride in all the big boy things you can do. You are getting yourself dressed and going to the bathroom by yourself, you can buckle yourself in the car (I just check it for safety), you are drinking out of big boy cups (not sippy cups), you are even counting in Spanish and saying the dinner prayer! I am so proud of the little man you have become. You are also a big (little) boy with an outstanding imagination who loves to play and pretend. I hope you continue to play and use your imagination even when you are a grown-up.

Here are some more observations about you recently:
You tend to not just blindly follow the crowd. You watch and decide for yourself if you want to participate.
You love a captive audience—whether it’s strangers in a nearby booth at a restaurant or Daddy and me in the car, you’ll perform showing off your boo-boos, demonstrating how high you can jump, how well you can count to 10, and so on for as long as anyone will smile and nod or as long as you think they are listening.
You are very imaginative, determined, considerate, loving, social, thoughtful, passionate, enthusiastic, and focused.

I love being your mommy. You knock me down with your hugs--your love is big and loud and strong and we love that about you. You can also be so gentle and sweet. You melt my heart when I hear you call Kyle “honey” while you two are playing. You amaze me everyday! I love you more than words can express.

Love,
Mommy

Fourth of July - Starr style

We had a great Fourth of July! We always do. This year was little different because instead of having a big party we decided to have a smaller get-together so the families who did come could spend the night. This made it so nice because the little ones could go to bed and the adults could stay up and talk and not have to worry about the long drive home. We had such a great time, I wish we had done this more often while living here.
One of my favorites from this weekend: Cody and I were figuring out what to make the boys for breakfast. We label each day by the meat on the allergy rotation schedule. So I said, "Today is Chicken Day." Cody then, knowing the drill, proceeded to make waffles for the boys. Then, Brian was about to get a waffle and his wife, Becky said, "Oh, you don't want that. That's not for you." And gave him a look. She thought there was chicken in the waffles!

I love LOVE my new iPhone and my husband is pretty great too. So now that I have this, I need to know what is your favorite APP?

I have already got Pandora on my list. I guess it's not much of a list if you only have one item on it so please help me out seasoned iPhone users! Oh, and if you're confused about our anniversary, it's because I couldn't stand to wait until August to get this puppy!
